Swisscom LogoSwisscom’s intranet and employee portal has been continuously and consistently developed for several years. 1stQuad has accompanied this intranet transformation from the beginning in close and agile cooperation with the internal IT of Swisscom. Within the scope of the project “Galactica” the release 4.0 of the intranet / employee portal was conceived, implemented, and introduced in spring 2016 with significant cooperation of 1stQuad.

Swisscom AG

Swisscom AG is a major telecommunications provider in Switzerland. The headquarters are located in Worblaufen near Bern. The Swiss Confederation holds 51.0 percent of Swisscom AG.

Swisscom’s approximately 18,000 employees work in a wide variety of functions throughout Switzerland. The requirements for an intranet / employee portal are very heterogeneous and the demands are high. The Swisscom intranet / employee portal is one of the most modern SharePoint based intranets in terms of user experience and architecture/technology and has received several international and national awards.

Digital workplace

The intranet / employee portal pursues the vision of gradually becoming an indispensable digital companion in everyday work. A digital workplace, which cleverly integrates content and functions for communication, collaboration, and daily work, and which can be used by all employees everywhere on all devices. With “Galactica” or Release 4.0 of the intranet/employee portal, a large part of the vision has been realized and thus become reality.

1stQuad and Swisscom have been working together for almost 10 years. Release 1.0 of the intranet / employee portal was implemented on SharePoint 2007 in 2008 and has been continuously developed since then.

With “Galactica”, a completely new user interface has now been designed and the UX/UI has been consistently modernized and implemented in a responsive manner. Web technologies such as Javascript Frameworks or APIs/Web services were combined with SharePoint 2013 in an innovative way.

For example, news, blog articles, or enterprise social network activities are aggregated in an attractive and intelligent way on the personalized start page. Corporate Communications has a wide range of options for effectively orchestrating employee communication, but also for integrating external content, for example.

Employees also have personalized widgets at their disposal, e.g. to display recently used documents or personal virtual workspaces, to ask questions, to be informed about malfunctions or maintenance work, to register for events and training courses, and much more. In order not to miss anything important, employees receive notifications, can easily network with others, and work together.

1stQuad was able to contribute its comprehensive technical expertise to this state of the art intranet/employee portal as well as innovative conceptual and architectural approaches. However, the Swisscom Intranet/Employee Portal does not stand still, and already today the vision is being worked on further.
